We do not force every building into the same specification. Equipment, system extent, resilience, monitoring and service frequency are agreed against the fire strategy, security risk assessment, operations and applicable requirements.

Risk-based detection, control equipment, warning devices and monitored signalling, designed around the required security grade, environmental class, insurer requirements and intended police or keyholder response.
Secure movement
Electronic access control, readers, credentials, controllers, monitored doors, interlocks and time profiles, with explicit treatment of emergency release, fire-alarm response, accessibility and safe escape.

Video surveillance designed from an operational requirement: what must be observed, detected, recognised or identified; under which lighting and environmental conditions; by whom; and for how long recordings are lawfully retained.

Risk-led systems that support evacuation, invacuation, lockdown and communication procedures without creating an unmanaged conflict with fire precautions or safe egress. A lockdown system is only effective when the technology, authority to activate, messages, staff actions, overrides and recovery plan are tested together.

A service visit is more than a signature. We record the agreed test scope, results, limitations, outstanding defects, recommendations and any follow-on work needed to restore the required performance.
Scheduled inspection, functional testing, cleaning, battery and power checks, event-log review, signalling checks and user feedback.
Structured diagnosis, temporary-risk communication, component replacement, configuration correction and retesting.
Survey, compatibility review, change control, installation, commissioning and updated as-fitted information.

UK compliance framework
Legislation creates duties. British Standards and recognised guidance normally provide accepted technical routes to meet the relevant performance objective, but they are not automatically law unless required by legislation, approval, contract, insurer or specification.
BS 5839-1:2025 for non-domestic fire detection and alarm systems; BS 5839-6:2019+A1:2020 where domestic premises fall within scope; BS 5839-8:2023 for voice alarm; the BS EN 54 product series; BS 7273-4:2015+A2:2023 for fire-alarm-controlled door release; and the current edition of BS 7671 for relevant electrical installation work.
There is no single UK Act that makes an intruder alarm mandatory for every commercial premises. The required protection is normally driven by risk assessment, contract, insurer, licensing conditions and, for monitored systems, alarm-receiving-centre and police-response requirements. General work and electrical safety duties still apply.
PD 6662:2017 and the BS EN 50131 series; DD CLC/TS 50131-7:2010 for application, commissioning and maintenance; BS 8243:2021 where confirmed alarms and police response are intended; the BS EN 50136 series and PD 6669:2017 for alarm transmission; BS 9518:2021 for signal processing by an ARC; and the current NPCC requirements and response policy where police response is required.
Police response, a Unique Reference Number and insurer acceptance can depend on an appropriately recognised installer, monitoring route and certification scheme. These requirements are confirmed before VectorShield accepts that part of a scope.
Relevant duties can arise under the fire-safety legislation for the premises, building regulations, the Equality Act 2010, and data-protection legislation where credentials, photographs, vehicle data or biometrics identify people. Security controls must not create an unjustified obstruction or unmanaged failure mode on an escape route.
BS EN 60839-11-1:2013 for system and component requirements; BS EN 60839-11-2:2015 for planning, installation, commissioning, maintenance and documentation; BS EN 13637:2015 for electrically controlled exit systems; and BS 7273-4:2015+A2:2023 where the fire alarm actuates door-release mechanisms.
The Data Protection Act 2018, UK GDPR and amendments made by the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025 govern personal-data processing. The system owner remains responsible for a lawful purpose, necessity and proportionality, transparency, access controls, retention, disclosure, security and data-subject rights. Follow current ICO video-surveillance guidance.
The Protection of Freedoms Act 2012 and Surveillance Camera Code of Practice apply directly to specified relevant authorities in England and Wales and provide useful principles more widely. The Private Security Industry Act 2001 and SIA licensing can apply to contracted public-space surveillance activities.
BS EN IEC 62676-4:2025 for planning, design, installation, testing, commissioning and maintenance of video surveillance systems, supported by the wider BS EN 62676 series; and BS 7958:2015 for management and operation in controlled environments.
The Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999, applicable fire-safety law and the Equality Act 2010 inform the risk assessment, emergency plan, communication and safe operation of lockdown measures.
The Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025, commonly known as Martyn's Law, includes evacuation, invacuation, lockdown and communication within public-protection procedures for qualifying premises and events. As at 3 September 2026, its substantive requirements have not yet commenced, so they are not yet in force. Organisations can use the Home Office statutory guidance to prepare.
System design and testing should also follow current ProtectUK lockdown guidance and relevant NPSA guidance. BS EN 50849:2017 applies where a sound system is used for non-fire emergency purposes; BS 5839-8:2023 applies where the system is a fire voice-alarm system. There is no single British Standard that by itself defines every lockdown system.
Work is planned with regard to the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999, Electricity at Work Regulations 1989, and Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 where construction work is involved.
Relevant electrical work follows BS 7671:2018+A4:2026, including applicable transition arrangements, alongside equipment manufacturers' instructions. Product selection and installation also consider applicable product-safety, construction-product, electromagnetic-compatibility and radio-equipment requirements.
Clear roles and evidence
Deliverables are matched to the system, contract and project stage, with variations and exclusions recorded rather than hidden.
VectorShield can install, commission and maintain a system, and can also provide consultancy and assurance services. Where a client, contract, insurer or approval body requires independent third-party verification, the independence requirement will be declared and the roles kept appropriately separate. No service transfers the legal duties of the responsible person, employer, accountable person, client, designer, principal designer, contractor, operator or system owner.

Yes, subject to an initial survey and access to the equipment, software, passwords, records and manufacturer support needed to work safely and competently. We will identify limitations or unsupported equipment before agreeing the maintenance basis.
Under BS 5839-1:2025, the interval between successive inspection and servicing visits should not exceed six months. The fire risk assessment, system condition, premises risk, insurer or enforcing authority may require a shorter interval.
Call-out response, hours, geographic coverage and target attendance are agreed in the maintenance proposal. We do not advertise a guaranteed response that has not been contractually resourced.
Police response and insurer acceptance can depend on recognised certification, monitoring and installer-scheme requirements. We confirm the exact requirement before accepting the work and will not imply an approval that is outside our appointment.
